How to print WhatsApp messages
There is no print button in WhatsApp. The reliable route is to export the chat (⋮ → More → Export chat), turn the exported file into a PDF, then print the PDF. Screenshots work for a handful of messages; anything longer needs a transcript.
Method 1 — Screenshots (fine for a few messages)
Screenshot the messages, then print the images from your gallery or a photo app.
Works when: you need five or ten messages and it does not need to look official.
Falls apart when: you have more than about twenty. You get one or two messages per page, no page numbers, no continuous dates, and a stack of paper nobody can navigate.
Method 2 — Export and print the text file
Export the chat, email the .txt to yourself, open it on a computer and print.
Works when: you just need the words on paper and do not care how it looks.
Falls apart when: the formatting matters. A raw text file prints with ragged line breaks, no header, and no page numbers, and long messages wrap awkwardly.
Method 3 — Export, convert to PDF, then print
Export the chat, open the file in a chat-to-PDF app, and print the resulting PDF from your phone or a computer.
Works when: you need something readable, citable or presentable — for a lawyer, an insurer, a landlord, or simply to keep. You get timestamps aligned, sender names, page numbers and a participant header.
This is also the only method that lets you print just one month out of a three-year conversation.
Printing from an Android phone
Once you have a PDF, open it, tap the share or menu icon, and choose Print. Android's print service will find printers on your Wi-Fi network, or you can "Save as PDF" to a file and take it to a print shop.
Practical tips
- Print without media unless you need the photos — a chat with images can run to hundreds of pages.
- Use the date filter to print only the period that matters.
- Print double-sided for long transcripts, and check whether your recipient wants single-sided; some courts and offices do.
- Keep the digital copy. Paper gets lost, and you may need to produce the file again.
